Cyprus is located in the eastern Mediterranean and has sun 365 days a year. A great place for people seeking a relaxing holiday in the warmth of the sunshine.
But Cyprus is not just about sunshine. It is an island of history and legends with stories going back around 10,000 years ago to the times of Alexander the Great and Cleopatra who staked their claim here, and to the Apostles of Christ. Aphrodite made her home here too, and travellers throughout the years came here just to pay her tribute. There are so many places of interest to visit it would be impossible to list them all here.
Cyprus today is a modern country that manages to bring together the European culture whilst retaining the old traditional ways. Your experience here can be as varied and rewarding as the geography of the island itself.
The beaches here are suitable for everyone, from small children to seekers of peace and quiet. The mountains of the Troodos offer an outstanding contrast to the coast and a visit here should not be missed. In the winter it is possible to leave the sunshine behind as you climb to the top and find yourself surrounded by snow topped fir trees. An absolutely stunning sight.
To the west is the Akamas Peninsula which is an area of natural beauty. It also incorporates Lara Bay famous for the turtles who come ashore in September and October to lay their eggs in the warm sand. |
